Boiler losing pressure: look for the cause
Repeated topping up can hide a leak or expansion problem. Record how boiler pressure changes before arranging a diagnosis.

Compare cold and hot readings
Pressure normally changes as the water warms, within the limits specified for the installation. Large rises followed by a low reading after cooling may involve expansion or safety valve discharge. A steadily falling reading may suggest water loss, but the gauge or sensor also needs consideration.
Check visible areas without opening the boiler
Look for accessible wet joints, marks beneath radiators or discharge where it can be observed safely. The absence of a puddle does not rule out a hidden leak. Record when you last added water and how quickly the pressure changed afterwards.
Why repeated filling is not a solution
Fresh water can introduce air and minerals, and constant topping up leaves the underlying problem unresolved. Do not fill blindly from a possibly inaccurate display. Follow the appliance’s user instructions and arrange assessment if the loss recurs.
Several components can be involved
Expansion vessel condition, a safety valve, automatic vent, pipework or internal hydraulic component may require checks. A pressure sensor can also misreport the state. See our leak detection service and provide the cold-to-hot pressure pattern when contacting ChauffePro.
