Boiler diverter valve: heating or hot water problems

How the valve directs heat

In a combi boiler using this arrangement, the diverter sends heated water towards the heating circuit or the domestic hot water heat exchanger. Depending on the design, an actuator moves the mechanism. Not every boiler has this system, and a mixing valve elsewhere in an installation has a different function.

Symptoms worth recording

Radiators warming during a shower when heating is not requested may suggest unwanted circulation. Lukewarm tap water while heating works is another useful clue. Short-lived warmth is not proof of a fault: residual heat and control behaviour also matter. Note whether the problem affects every tap and when it begins.

Mechanism, actuator or control signal?

The valve may stick, its seals may wear, or its actuator may fail. Alternatively, the correct electrical command may be missing. The technician compares the requested function with movement and temperatures. Depending on the model, an actuator or internal part may be available separately from the complete valve.

Check both functions after repair

A scaled plate heat exchanger, sensor or flow problem can produce similar symptoms. Do not force the valve or hold it in one position. A repair must preserve the manufacturer’s intended operation. Heating, hot water and the disturbed connections need checking afterwards.

Arrange a diagnosis in Anderlecht

Provide the make, exact model, full fault message and when the symptom occurs. Keep the appliance accessible without opening it, and mention previous repairs or leaks. ChauffePro can discuss breakdown diagnosis, repair and servicing. Availability and the proposed work are confirmed for your installation.
